When it comes to providing healthcare, Dr. Kathleen Luma, DNP, FNP, is specifically interested in women’s health and family medicine. Throughout her time working with NY Family Docs, she’s developed a philosophy of care centered upon health literacy. “When you know better, you do better,” Kathleen says. She believes in treating patients holistically and empowering them when it comes to their care. Kathleen’s goal is to provide the necessary education to patients so they can make better, more informed decisions regarding their health. She speaks both English and Haitian Creole which allows her to communicate more effectively with the patient community she serves.
Kathleen has both a Bachelors and Master of Science in Nursing and then completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University in 2019.
Kathleen was raised in Brooklyn, NY, and is married with one son. Recently, she had a friend visiting the area and on Memorial Day weekend toured Battery Park, Wall Street near the NYSE, the World Trade Center Memorial, and 42nd Street. She said it was an amazing time and enabled her to see the city through a completely different lens.
Some of Kathleen’s favorite things to do include spending quality time with family and close friends, going on weekend getaways, and spending a day at the spa at least once a month. Her goal in life is to experience something new every day and truly make a difference in people’s lives. She also enjoys traveling and going on humanitarian (medical mission) trips and plays alto saxophone.
